Ian's Rubik's Cube
I spent hours with this damn thing. In fact, I still have my original Rubik's Cube hidden away somewhere complete. I hated it, but it was just one of those things that I couldnt let beat me. For the longest time though I couldn't see why it was so difficult. It seemed pretty easy to figure out, you just peeled off all the coloured stickers and then stick them back on in the right place to complete the puzzle. Unfortunately, the cube I got wasn't coloured by stickers, but melted into the plastic itself! So, I learned how to:
CHEAT & PULL IT APART!!!

WARNING: taking apart a cube may damage it. This is the main reason a lot of them ended up in bits. Put the cube on a hard flat surface. With a thin blunt instrument like a medium sized flathead screwdriver (don't use a knife... very dangerous... don't ask about my left hand...) GENTLY work the screw driver into the gap right above one of the centre squares - don't try this on a corner, or IT WILL SNAP! (trust me on this) When the screwdriver is in a few millimetres, slowly give some leverage so the edge piece comes up. It should suddenly pop up, but DON'T PRESS TOO HARD! With this one piece removed, the rest of them can be slid out. |
| You'll find it easier if you rotate the face of a the cube by about 45 degrees, but this will mean more balancing with the screwdriver. |
| To reassemble the cube, use a flat surface to hold the
pieces in place. Thread them in one at a time with the last piece being an edge. You
should GENTLY press down on the edge and it should pop back into place! ...and there you have it! Another unsolved mystery!! |
